OK folks… right now I am in a transitional phase with the whole blog thing… I am actually SLOWLY forwarding my writings over at my new blog site, which will be a permenent stop. As your going to see, I am actually going to be posting my OLD posts from here, along with my week to week description on my husbands and I journey through pregnancy (today 11/18/2008 makes us 13 weeks by the way..).

Now Unforunately I am going to have to delay this weeks describtion because I actually have now internet access at home because my router went bad and I am ceratinly writing this from my folks house… so I have limited time on this machine here. Just because something really funny happened this weekend with my husband. The song has nothing to do with what happened. It was a “You Had To Be There” kinda thing.

I think we all can attest to having friends in our lives that find jolly to pushing the envelope when it comes to “chemical enhancement”, whether it be pills, the whitey, dope, etc. I know I always think about them and wonder to myself… “Why~WHY would you REALLY want to be high, outside your mind constantly”  as they use them habitually until they loose everything good in their lives, including their own self worth.

Makes me sad for my friends, happy that I’m not part of that stereotypical foothold.

A story about just that, a friend telling a friend that drugs are NO. GOOD. BUCKO.! Of course the friend doesn’t listen to anything other then the addiction… and of course you know what happens when you drive a car with no brakes… the crash is inevitable!

In my years of collecting records in manic OCD fashion (although not so much as of late, damn bills), I have always found myself calling my records “a good friend”… the most special and emotionally attached ones anyway. They were always there to calm me down, sooth the soul and mind, recognize reality and self-worth, appreciate things… but most importantly, how to love. And I think that records, just like any good friend, you not only accept them for their “skips”, “snap, crackle, pops” and the occasional wavy play back, but THEY accept you for your heavy hand (on the needle), the accidental needle drop OR drag, the accidental clumsy drop and of course the repeat listen of the same track 22 times… but like a good friend, you both get over it and no matter what, they still never let you down and they play what you want!

That being said, I would like to introduce to a “friend”… a side order of sorts… and had played along with one of the most impressionable sounds of our time during the 60’s. Noel Reddings time with Hendrix may have been short lived and enormous… and although it is TRUE life after Hendrix would never be the same for him (although when Noel played in “Road”… I thought that was another ground breaking play on emotion as well), even though his career fell short and small to many others, it played a bit a of different jive for me. Call it what you may, slaughter or slander if you must… But the first “Fat Mattress” was an incredible part of self re-assurance and the morphology from Hendrix to “Fat Mattress” was nothing short of genius and was a completely drug induced pysch/folky/rock movement. FOR ME talent is when you can (literary terms speaking) go from heavy creativity to selfless, creative writing and never say “OH WELL…. guess I’ll give up now, I tried!”

Trying is “tried” until you’ve completed your mission, whether or not you fail or succeed!

Good morning folks… it’s approximately 6 am and I’m awake and feel pretty dang good since yesterdays doctors appointment. Let’s pray for the best I suppose.

Here’s a short little blurp this morning, to get your day rolling and off on the right crazy foot! UNlike most of what I wroiteabout, lets go forward in time, but backwards all in the same trip…a year that I was totally around alive for and remember. I might not have been drinking beers, smoking pot or thrashing around at crazy woods parties hanging with ALL the wrong people… YET… but I certainly remember clearly what music (of all genres) was doing for the soul!

Kinda of a “social rock” band for me, now-a-days, but definitely much heavier and weirder, a different kind of talent I suppose. Straight from Cali, I lend you a personal favorite, one that never gets old.

For me Claw Hammer has a totally catchy dirty sound of Chris Bagarozzi guitar… but FOR ME… Jon Wahl’s voice is so completely demented that he leaves you TOTALLY ready to hear some more!!

It’s been a bunch of days, too many to shamefully render myself now colorless I’m sure.

Right now, it’s later in the evening of the 10th, went to the neurologist today to figure out what was going on with my brain..to find out it’s really my neck. I have damage nerve endings from all the years of full contact fighting and cracking my neck. I also found out I have “vascular headaches” also know as “cluster headaches” which is a result of poor blood flow to brain, which anyone who knows me…ALREADY KNOWS… poor blood flow to MY brain in QUIT apparent!!…hehehehe..mmmm. SO I have to take Fiorcet, Medrol and have to get a Cortisone shot on Monday that is suppose to help reduce the disc compression to help heal my nerve endings and this picture below is a description of EXACTLY how my headaches feel. 

So since it’s been a while I bounced around ideas today… from one to the other. I was going to do a post on “sam the Sham” and then decided that I wanted to post a section on Catfish Hodge… but then changed my mind AGAIN because of my recent repetitive listening.

Tonight I am going to give you a fantastic selection that is a jazzy/ pysch/rock mastpiece. It’s really been helping me get through my days at work. An interesting foundation of music, intelligence and ferocity all bound together to produce this crazy, winding and insane sound of pure talent, founded by record producer Robert Fripp (lead guitar) . His recruiters consisted of a very dear friend of his, Michael Giles, who was the soul ground leveling master mind of the jazzy drum sets, which inevitably drove to the band to exactly just THAT. The rest of the intellect includes that of psychedelic jazz artist Ian McDonald (pipes, reeds, keys and vocs), Greg Lake (bass and also lead vocs) and Pete Sinfield (words and illuminations). A totally colorful collaboration of sound and monotony, released in 1969 on Alantic records, I share with you…”In the Court of the Crimson King”.

Here’s a little present for your ears that I scored during my hiatus!

Now before I go into anything, I had been searching for this LP for a long time and never came across it. I suppose in the back of my head I figured that it was one of those LP’s that you quest for but take a lifetime to acquire.

So stumbling and scurrying between record stores and flea markets early last Sunday morn, my Husband and I quested off to visit our old friend, New Hope, PA. Now I love New Hope, there are so many cute little stores there! But anyway on our way up there we stopped at this flea market/antique store to buzz around and really just to dip our toes in fresh waters (even though we have been there 2 other times). I always like a newer, not as familiar place because sometimes going to the same old flea market weekend after weekend can feel a bit redundant.

At this time while we’re walking about (I have a sweatshirt on), the sun is crawling high and hotter into the breaking afternoon sky and the sweat is just DRIPPING off my face, down my back, under my boobs, down my ass crack and I’m starting to get a bit aggravated because I can’t even take off my sweatshirt because I forgot to shave my pits! We come across a few keepers that were within the isles that some vender’s had in stinky cardboard boxes, ON THE GROUND, but I need to be in the shade or the A/C, so I start making my way into the building part, which is actually the antique store.

While I am waiting for the sluggish Mr. Love, visually I start walking around the antique store when…BINGO… I lay eyes on this one music shop. Now, normally I try my VERY BEST to wait for my husband because he gets a little testy if I beat him to the punch on ANY record, which inevitably is a horrible thing when you both collect records because IN MY MIND… either way, ANYTHING we get comes to the same address and the same collection, so I don’t mind, BUT it drive him CRAZY!… In anycase I wondered over there all by my lonesome to check out this jazzy store. I skip the tapes and disc’s and just go right for the plastic boxes that held the vinyl and start picking through them.

The guys had a bunch of things there that I scored, but for me when I came across this LP, exuding the stench of yester-year… LITERALLY I almost fainted, because like I said, I just figured this was going to have to be an ebay purchase or something of that nature!

 give you “GUN”, their first, S/T LP released in 1969 on Epic records… and I can’t even describe tell you how much of a masterpiece this album truly is! A totally heavy, noisy, creative band that really (for me) highlighted the futility of the increasingly progressive British invasion!

Saint Vitus totally rips! So here is my short little stent for the week. Off their 5th LP, fittingly name “V”  on Hellhound records released in 1989. This is actually only Wino’s (of the Obsessed) third album with guys after replacing Scott Reagers (recorded their S/T LP,Hallow’s Victim LP and finally The Walking Dead EP) on vocs in 1986.

We all know how much I am completely IN LOVE with Ronnie James Dio. His vocal capabilites are completely effortless and charming. So… in homage… here’s to my little friend!

Black Sabbath is one of those bands, that will “Never Say Die” and never “Die Young”. Super timeless and relevant for ages.

Sabbath can most definitely be grandfathered in as the corner stone to heavy metal, doom metal. Dawning since the extinction of dinosaurs, Black Sabbath has been ruling every ones life since 1970. Originally piloted by singer Ozzy Osbourne, bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward and of course the 25 (but really 7 1/2 fingers) finger wonder… Tony Iommi RULING lead strings!! Now before I give you my pick of the litter for this day, let me just brief you on Sabbath before Ronnie James Dio took Ozzy’s mic!

When Sabbath first originated, they brought this doomy sound to the studio and stage that had been lingering on the way side for years, just weening to be set free and set this forever irreplaceable sound to heavy metal as we know it. Releasing eight full length LP before the year 1980 (Black Sabbath-1970, Paranoid late 1970, Master of Reality-1971, Black Sabbath Volume 4-1972, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath-1973, Sabotage-1975, Technical Ecstasy-1976 and Never Say Die-1978). As we all can see from his behavior now, Ozzy Osbourne had always had a struggle with his battle for substance abuse, which would forever haunt his career in Sabbath, his solo career and even his family life. Sadly most of his songs if you tune in closely are truly about his own personal struggles and vendetta’s in his downward spiraling lifestyle.

Mid 1979, after countless times of bad, toxic, maligant blood being spilt upon the round table of these heavy metal Lords, Ozzy’s addictions and lack of desire to come up with new ideas had become the entire bands issue and was pushing everyone apart. Ozzy was then asked to leave so that he could seek the help that he needed and Sabbath could try and rebuild this already shaky foundation.

Unfortunately, most people think I have this vendetta against Ozzy. I DON’T, I truly believe he was ahead of his time vocally, I just think his flamed fizzled down merely because of his own issues and now-a-days… He is really nothing more then a hack trying to make up for last time.

In any case, later 1979 the guys were introduced to Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio to replace Ozzy position as front man. A familiar man to them, it was an honor to say the least for these handsome heavy metal heroes. Recording their first LP with Dio and releasing it in 1980 (on WB records), “Heaven and Hell“(Black Sabbath’s 9th release) would reface and reinstate the face of Black Sabbath, creating something that Ozzy just couldn’t bring back. Dio went on to record three more records(Mob Rules in 1981, Live Evil in 1982 and finally inbetween his solo career he came back again to release Dehumanizer in 1992)  with Sabbath before he finally left to pursue his solo career full time.

Dio has now found his way back to Sabbath, touring in 2007 and in 2008 (both were super fantastic shows) and still sounds just as powerful as ever. Under the circumstances that Sharon Osbourne owns the rights to Black Sabbath… they now tour as (fitting) “Heaven and Hell“, but they are still the same old heavy metal gods, same old great heavy sound.

Here’s a little number that took me back to 1997, stuck in a bedroom with no where to go and a bag of mushrooms, a few beers and a friend that I can’t seem to find way to locate these days. I’m thinking she fell off the face of the planet. I remember being in a heep of trouble with my mom and dad and decided that staying away from home for a few days would help smooth over a bad situation (even though it made it worse).

As I said, it was 1997, I was 16 and quite the rebel. I had been out partying with my pal Marian, who always seemed to be on the same page as myself, musically, mentally and emotionally. My parents had caught me sneaking out late at night and sneaking boys IN late at night. I guess in my head, I thought this was a never ending gateway to “cool” and based on my actions my folks found it very hard to bed down most nights because of my crazy antics. But anyway getting back to my “Blind Faith” story…

After all the games I had being playing, I figured that strolling away for a few days was for the best. Marian and I had plans one night to buy a bag a shrooms and eat them all, drink beers and just spin records and TRIPP face!! This is also when I decided again the whole “Pink Floyd is the best to listen to” when your trippin’, WASN’T…. because I AM TELLING YOU, Pink Floyd is the SCARIEST to spin down when your messed up on hallucinogens. Twenty minutes of crazy, wavy music by the likes of PF was enough for me… and I went stumbling over the the pile of records we picked out for spinning that faithful evening (Pink Floyd-The Wall, Led Zepplin-S/T, Uriah Heep-Demons and Wizards, Joni Mitchell-Clouds, West/Bruce/Laing-Live n Kickin, Black Sabbath-Master of Reality, Love-DaCapo, Blind Faith-Blind Faith, Metallica-Master of Puppets, Deep Purple-Machine Head and In Rock, Trouble-The Skull, Alice Cooper-Pretties For You… and a hand full of others that I can’t seem to recall. Must have been the shrooms) and plucked out the Blind Faith LP looking to replace the prior press that was currently making NUTTS.

This was actually the first time I had ever heard Blind Faith before, quickly to find out that everyone in the band was a musical hero in one fashion or another. Blind Faith-S/T was released in 1969 on Atco and produces such a rich, super-tone sound by the likes of Ginger Baker ( of Cream), Eric Clapton (also of Cream and of course the Yardbirds), Ric  Grech(of the underappriated and short lived band Family and another soon on the “post list”) and of course Steve Winwood (Traffic and The Spencer Davis Group). I remember how full I felt after listening to it and thinking that it could have NEVER sounded any better after that! Well, to say the least, it never sounded BETTER sober and has been a favorite for me for about 10 years now.

Things have been so ridiculous lately, even though oddly enough I have been staying in mostly good spirits… other then a few tears and a heart felt emotional break down that could have gone HAYWIRE if it wasn’t for a little convincing from a dear friend and my husband to realize that some people aren’t worth your time!

I need a bit of a pick me up here on this evening. I wasn’t going to write a post, but after rambling the halls of Lowes with my mother I became inspired by a favorite tune of mine! “She’s A Lover” is the name of the song… and the band, well you’ll find out in a minute or two, but first I feel the need to banter on for a second about some things.

Honestly, I can not put to any words or format to explain to anyone how truly horrible and miserable a certain women in my life is(and by far not my mother…cause she RULES). And with this careless notion to openly express “my opinion” of her…I banter on. She’s horrible and metals in everyones business. She hurts more feelings then I care to mention. Turning the cheek and biting her tongue would do nothing but devastate her empire of moral deconstruction! “Think before you speak” was the rule and ground of good teachings in my childhood life, as words cut deeper then any knife could and are irretrievable. Others, stake way to speak and never think. Manipulation is an evil game, based on preaching opinions and personalizing it into fact for her own self-worth, and she wins every round. But not this time… not this girl! She won’t break me down, but I will gladly watch her  stumble over her words and FINALLY admit to fault for once in her spindle webbed life…. I better stop it’s making me mad!

As my husband says “You can pick your friends, Not your family”..

Nothing so true, I’m just glad I have the family I have, and the family I picked (Mr. Love is the Man).

Anyway, sorry about that. Here’s a band that got alot of listening in my younger days. I remember being in the middle of the woods, in front a bonfire plugging this little number into the tape deck of my old friend Oscar’s 1986 Ford F150, recorded in the raw form of handheld recordable decks, from this LP of mine. I can almost still feel the fire and taste the bitter sweet after mouth of Mad Dog 20/20…followed by the desperation of a few NattyIce 12oz cans.

Released in 1970, on Rare Earth/Motown… I give you Parachute. A slimey, sexy pysch sound, worth moving yourself about to! Enjoy this treasure that I have been lugging around for years.

EDIT:: Although I have spent my entire life thinking the name of this band was “Parachute-Pretty Things”… I just…literally JUST found out that I am indeed VERY mistaken, and for the first time ever… I take back what I say. The name of the band is “The Pretty Things”… SORRY folks, thats what listening to something your whole life and never doing any complete investigations will do to you.

I know I promised a few days a spectacular treats for yesterday, but I was pretty busy and ended up getting caught up in a tangled web of misunderstandings and undeveloped priorities!

SOOO, in leu of the Metal Masters Tour that my family and I attended Saturday, I have to say that EVERYONE kicked ass, Motorhead RULED. Black Sabbath always has a superior and consistently powerful repor with the audience! Judas Priest definitely stole the show for my husband. Although I have to say, that I went thinking I was going to see Sabbath (again) and unlike the last time we saw Sabbath with Dio, every band was consistent and flawless!

Every song was a metal masterpiece!

Back to the daily grind, here at this place I suppose I call work. Busy as usual and too much for one gal to handle!

I suppose that I will start my musical banter on Robin Trower’s first band, “Procol Harum”. This particular LP that I give to you today is their first, S/T LP on Regal Zonophone Records released in 1967. It is my understanding, through articles over the internet that their line-up changes were neither here nor there and just like the weather, it was circulating all the time. For this LP… we have Gary Brooker on keys and vocs (although Keith Reid wrote all the songs), Robin Trower on lead git, B.J. Wilson on drums, Dave Knights on bass and Matthew Fisher also on keys/organ.

I can see why not too many found fond of Procol’s music, especially after Trower left in 1972 (which by that time he was well on his way to “his solo career” in 1973). I kind of fell victim to the same thing myself! I was really unimpressed at first, but after a few repeat listens…. I changed my mind, because actually, talent exudes from them. Honestly enough they aren’t one of my “all time favorites”… but worthy enough to make it to the iTouch!

My dad actually said to me once…. “Who sings this song????” and of course I gave him his answer, as his reply was “yeah well… let’s keep it like that…”!!!!!

lololololol… this is what you get from me today mooks! Besides… I think it’s time to take a week or so off from this blog thing maybe. The reciprocation is like trying to teach a 3 month old how to operate a tractor trailer!

The next few days (starting sunday) I have a few treats for you. Unfortunately I am going to lay low tomorrow, got some plans in Holmdel.

Short and Sweet… I’m pretty dang tired!

There here clip is “Victim of Changes”, possibly ONE of my favorites amongst the Priest shrine in my heart. I see here this must be the ”Screaming For Vengence” tour, but the track was originally released on their 1976, “Sad Wings Of Destiny”. A powerhouse LP, a must own and a repeat listen!

Right here, yet another piece of gold and well deserving of the name “Metal Master”. A small little man, but a voice that would scare the largest of man. Iommi has AT LEAST 20 fingers and no less! This is from there 1992 “Dehumanizer” tour and the Dehumanizer record as well. Black Sabbath, “I”.

And last but not least, off the 2004 Inferno tour, “Overkill” by the dirtiest voice(KING Lemmy) in the history of metal. Metal Master… Motorhead!

Sorry “Testament”  although they are loved and adored by many, I don’t think it would be right to actually say “Metal Master”.

Stood the test of time YES! Creating music for the generations…mmmmm, I think this is the wrong fan!

But I have to kind of dedicate this here post to my gal pal JJB over at EyeEatMusic, for this notion takes place but a few months back when she herself wrote a segment on The Illusion.

I really don’t know all that much about these guys (I have been doing a bunch of reading in the last few days though), other than the fact that it is completely addictive and has been ruling my rides to and from work!

When she unintentionally, introduced me to The Illusion, I was actually fortunate to come across a copy of their first S/T (on Steed records released in 1969) at The Philadelphia Record Exchange in Philadelphia,PA and I actually forget which flea market I found their second record at (“Together” on Steed released late 1969).

But just about a week and a few days ago we were at the Collingswood flea market when I came across this masterpiece of a record! I knew I would love it, because I was so fond of the other two, but I never knew the absolute BIRTHDAY treat I would get! 

It’s there last LP (“If It’s So”), released on Steed in 1970. Again, I don’t really like to give the old “shuck and jive” line, so when I get my “checks and balances” squared away, I think I will elaborate on them further on another post!

Anyway, JJB to you… and to ME… for the awesome SCORE!… GOD I love record hunting! The kill is always so satisfying! OH and by the way, pardon my semi-poor seperation skills, the cuts run right into one another…. But here are the rockers off Side A!

I was so young listening to the Heep, inspired thusly through my father. Here’s is a little clip tonight just to get you through the evening. Right now I am at my folks doing a little laundry, jamming out with my iPod, with my mother and father.

Somehow I don’t think the old man is going to give my B-day gift back!

Anyway, a little older in this clip, but still fantastic and rich in sound!

Here’s for my STILL rocking parents, who still have not forgotten their youthful roots!

Right now I am sitting home alone, the boys are out and about at pawn shops, looking for used drum sets and used gits.

And I have to say, that I absolutely love to banter about some rocking tunes, and more importantly, I enjoy the educational part more then anything!

Growing up as a young girl, brought up under neither the bellows of rock n roll/pysch and the pre-amp to heavy metal, I was always very humbled by the knowledge and the fact that I knew more about music then anyone else I ever associated with. I always had comfort in knowing that a single song, no matter what song it might have been momentarily… could put me in a better, surreal place. I also remember me and John Brown (my kid brother, he ALWAYS listened to records with me), which whom by the way knows a thing or two about music… but anyway, we used to always joke about living in the early days. A time when things were a bit more free, but also more understood and open minded towards ideas and inconsistencies during their then “modern day war fair”.

In any case, I just want to give this thanks out to three very special friends of mine, Mr. Love, The Devil, Jables. Thank you all so much, for teaching me and educating me on things that I maybe would have taken 10 more years to learn about! I love you guys, and this post is really for you!

A rock N roll, pysch record that lives for the ages and is still completely relevant with massive underlying influences of what we would later come to know as punk rock.

I think in my opinion, even though the Stooges definitely (without a doubt) set a precedence with their music, but I truly believe that Iggy’s (vocs) outrageous stage performance really enunciated the bands visual characteristics.

This LP that I present to you today is their first, S/T released in 1969 on Elektra records with of course Iggy Pop(Stooge) on vocs, Scott Asheton on drums, his brother Ron on git and of course bassist Dave Alexander. The Stooges put only 3 LP between 1969 – 1973, but did release a live album in 1977 “Metallic K.O.”. That same year Iggy made way to leave the Stooges, to form his solo career, notably his familiarity to most, but then was recruited back to reunited with the Stooges in 2007 to release “The Weirdness” (which I haven’t heard YET).

 I have to admit, the album is entirely too perfect to just give you a few songs, but unfortunately I am also entirely too lazy to sit through the whole thing right now, got to get ready for a BBQ… so I am gonna give you a few of my favorite tracks off this record.

SO here it is, day 5 of my consecutive stoner rock bloggy!

Last be certainly not least … … Fu Manchu!!!

I absolutely love “The Fu” (as I call them)! Definitely worth saving for the end!

Now, in all admittance I didn’t completely start getting into stoner rock until about my junior year in high school because I was pretty close minded about opening my horizons to the term “music” itself. I knew about rock N roll, early heavy metal and very little (VERY LITTLE) about thrash and speed metal and that was really it! It wasn’t until I met my husband that started learning about thrash, punk, hardcore and mid 80’s metal (hair metal)!

My first time ever listening to The Fu, again was my junior year and… to this particular LP I am posting today too! Although it actually isn’t my favorite (“The Action is Go” released in 1997 on Mammoth is my favorite), I felt it was important to spill out the personal sentimental value that it has for me!

ACTUALLY, the funny thing about Fu Manchu is that (aforementioned) the band shares a likeness to drummer Brant Bjork, who first played with Kyuss. I had never known this of course, because I had not yet gave Kyuss a listen (even though I had heard OF THEM). Later that same year I had eventually got to know the likes of Kyuss and that’s when an old friend (not gonna mention that bitches name: Karen) told me how Brant Bjork was originally in Kyuss, but had left to join the Fu in 1996. Brant eventually left the Fu as well in 2002 right after they released “California Crossing” (on Mammoth). I actually gave up on the Fu when Brant left… and haven’t gave much listen to their more recent stuff! But getting off the whole Brant Bjork story (you should definitely check out his Kyuss, Fu days… because it really made for an interesting solo career). The Fu in a whole, had become really popular, their music spreading from videos to games and movies to skate and surf competitions and now a days even car comericals!

Well here you go, a career well worth their merit. I give you Fu Manchu, their 6th full length LP on Mammoth released in 1999, “King of the Road”
